The January 2010 DC challenge was hosted by Cuppy of Cuppylicious and she chose a delicious Thai-inspired recipe for Pork Satay from the book 1000 Recipe Cookbook by Martha Day.
I substituted cubed chicken breasts and made the long marinade recipe. We didn’t love the marinade. I think it may be the turmeric in the marinade that we didn’t like. One day I’ll try it again with the faster marinade recipe because we loved the peanut sauce. Thanks Cuppy!

Delicious looking chicken satay!
Congrats on your awards. I love the one where you say that you love to sleep in your own bed after a long trip. I say the same thing all the time--truer words never spoken daaaaaahling.
*kisses* HH
Thank you for passing me an award!! Now I have to figure out what to say...
BTW...the best Satay sauce recipe I've ever had is actually on my blog. Try it and see what you think. We go to Thai restaurants and hubby always says mine is better! And it's EASY!
Smiling cause I've read about 5 different satay recipes this evening...including mine!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the award!! :)
I have never made this dish. And I am so embarrass that I signed up for Daring Cooks and Bakers and NEVER MADE ONE DISH. I am THAT girl. How embarrassing!
Congrats for your award and your list is very similar to mine...the #10 also apply to me after a long training!
The chicken satay looks scrumptious :)
Cheers,
Gera
Ahhhh! Sleeping in your own bed! I'm totally in agreement with that. The satay looks delicious.
Barbara, you did a great job with this challenge. Your satay looks wonderful.
Yummy looking satay! Congrats on the awards and thank you very much for passing them on to me =D.
Your photos are fantastic! I can't believe you didn't care for it! We love satay w/peanut sauce at our house.
Congrats on your awards!! We love a lot of the same things! :)
I saw chicken cubes at the supermarket and was so tempted to use those, but I had chicken in my freezer that I felt I should make use of. I think the pieces of chicken would have been a bit easier to eat thought!
what a wonderful dish, it looks packed with flavor! congrats on the awards!
Thank you! Thank you! So sweet of you to think of me for such an award. :)
And your chicken satay? Yum! I have said I would try my hand at it forever...may need to just jump right in. :)
I love chicken satay. I kind of favor chicken actually. Very yummy Barbara.
Barbara, I love your 10 responses to the award. Scuba diving! How fun. I've never even heard of chicken satay, but it looks beautiful. It's been too long since I've actually seen you!
Ver intersting list of things I like the sleeping in bed response. And your satay looks so delicious and you even got charring on the sugar snaps. Cheeers from Audax in Sydney Australia.
I like the chicken and snow peas combo. I didn't love the marinade, but when I added the fish sauce and turned up the heat a bit, it was better. I have used peanut sauce marinades on dishes like this and I think that adds some interesting flavors when combined with traditional Thai flavors.
Enjoyed both the satay post (great pic!) and top ten list. I agree about #10, but might consider shortening it to just "sleeping."
The satay look delicious. Bummer you didnt care for the marinade.
Scuba Diving? You never cease to amaze me.
Fun list.
Megan took the words right out of my mouth! Hah!
Scuba diving is what stood out to me, too. ;) I've been watching a lot of underwater videos the last couple of months...
Your satay looks divine, and so do those peas. That's too bad you didn't care for it so much, but maybe you can find some better recipes to suit your tastes to make a better meal? :)
I've had Chicken Satay but never Pork Satay which actually sound so much better!
YUM! Your satay looks fantastic! That sauce looks amazing, too!
Great job on your challenge and the satay looks really delicious.
Barbara, your satay looks delicious. Taste tempting click!
Congratulations on your award. Well done!
That looks great mum and isn't it great finding a peanut sauce recipe that's really good :D Congratulations on your awards-love that comment about sleeping in your own bed after a trip! :)
Congrats on your awards. Well deserved!
I love your peanut sauce Barbara, it's much lighter and looks so delicious, mine was much thicker though it tasted good.
Your satay looks fantastic!
Have a great day,
Cheers
It is nice to serve satays with green vegetables. I could see that your satay is scrumptious and peanut chunks amidst the sauce makes it very appealing!
Sawadee from Bangkok,
Kris
The dipping sauce was yummy, sorry you didn't care for the marinade. It does look great!
Congrats on all accounts! Your blog is wonderful! : ) That Chicken Satay looks really yummy! Thanks for another great recipe! Have a great weekend!

Congratulations on the awards Barbara, I'm a fan of all those things especially suny warm days. Great looking satay, pity you didn't enjoy the tumeric.
Barbara
Congratulations on your awards, and thank you for passing one on to me.
Your chicken satay looks wonderful, to bad that you didn't really enjoy it.
Scuba diving?
Mimi
You did such a great job on the satay...looks delicious!
Congrats on your awards. I love your blog cause you are honest. If you didn't like it , you didn't like it. But you pass on the comments all the same and some may like the turmeric whilst others maybe not so much. Grin. That is why we experiment and try. Our families, grin...what they go through with all our experimentation right?
I love seeing these satay posts! It makes me want to mix up a marinade and peanut sauce. Looks great!
Your chicken satay looks really delicious, I'm going to go check out the recipe! Congrats on yoru lovely award!
Thank you for the award :) Since I'm new to food blogging, I'm really happy about that. My blog is still a baby LOL
Congrats on your well-deserved awards. I love peanut sauce and satay, both. My Thai neighbor taught me how to make it. Her recipe is easy, peasy and so good (on my blog).
Thank you for passing me an award!!
i love satays and peanut source so much. satays serve with beans is something new to me because in Malaysia the satays will be served with cucumber and onion only. yours look so tempting.
Congrats on your awards, Barb..more than well deserved! That said, your satay turned out so yummy on the eyes! Great plating and photo :)
Aww, thank you so much for the award. It means a lot coming from you. xo
i love the satay sauce thanks for the sharing !! cheers Pierre from paris
Great looking satay! Well done, Barbara!
Oh yum! The peanut sauce looks so creamy draped over your chicken. I could just gobble it all up now!
Perhaps we should get together for a meal of homemade m&c and french bread--we appreciate it!
That's funny. I didn't like the peanut sauce as much but the marinade was okay. Turmeric doesn't really have flavor, so maybe it was the coriander or cumin?
All these peanut sauce recipes are making me very hungry. Congrats on the awards :)
Congrats on the wonderful award GF,and I love the satay you made. Divine is the word. YUMMY!! Sorry I've been missing...
I've only made chicken satay once and really enjoyed the sauce but didn't use tumeric. I hope you try it again and check out other variations of the sauce and find one that suits your taste!
Congrats on your award!
Yummy looking satay! I loved the peanut sauce too...congratulations on your award :)
I love this dish wanna try it
Your pictures are wonderful. And I'd concur on your assessment of the peanut sauce. I think we ended up adding a bit more sugar as well!
I think the marinade would taste wonderful on chicken.
