A giant buttery, crisp chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast-iron skillet and served warm topped with vanilla ice cream. A restaurant style dessert that’s easy to make at home.

I saw Nestle’s Holiday Morsels with Red & Green Colored Morsels at the store recently and thought they would be a fun way to dress up a skillet cookie for the holidays.

This giant cookie was a big hit with my family. My daughter especially loved how the cast-iron skillet crisped up the bottom of cookie but the top was still soft and chewy. It’s an easy, fun treat to make and would be a perfect treat to serve during the holidays.

    • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter softened, divided
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

    • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips*

    • Preheat the oven to 350ºF and grease the bottom and sides of a 9-inch cast-iron skillet with 2 tablespoons of the butter.
    • Add the remaining 8 tablespoons of butter and the sugars to the bowl of a stand mixer and beat until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, beating until well combined.

I subscribed to Pressure Cooking Today. I have a pressure cooker, but have never used it- it’s time to dust it off and put it to work. 🙂

sooo, you put the dough in a cold skillet and bake it? Would it take longer because it takes longer for cast iron to get hot? What would happen, do you think, if you put the skillet in the oven to warm up first and then added the dough, to the hot skillet? Ever fry a cookie? I haven’t. hmm.

I haven’t fried a cookie, but I like the concept. This dough is thick, so it took a while to spread it to the edges and I’d worry about burning yourself while your’e spreading it and part of it melting while your trying to spread it. Although I do love putting cornbread batter in a hot pan.

This is so cool! I have seen giant cc cookies in Mrs. Fields, but nothing like this you could do at home in a skillet! I can’t wait to try it. Love the Christmas chips you used, as it would be perfect to take to a party! Thank you!! Off to check out Jenny’s blog etc.

I can see myself indulging in this with rich vanilla ice-cream in front of the fire place while the snow falls outside. Hmm… guess I’d better plan a trip to somewhere it snows!
