A restaurant style cheesy garlic bread that’s ooey, gooey, rich and creamy, and crisp and crunchy. A fabulous side dish for whatever you’re grilling or your next Italian meal.
This month’s theme for Progressive Eats, our virtual progressive dinner, is a Summer Barbecue hosted by Liz of That Skinny Chick Can Bake. It’s a delicious end of summer menu that will be perfect for your next cookout or Labor Day gathering. I signed up to bring bread to the virtual diner, and my favorite cheesy garlic bread came to mind.
There use to be a Black Angus restaurant near where we live; my husband and I use to go there about once a month. They served a pretty good steak, but it was the cheesy garlic bread that kept me coming back. We’d order it as an appetizer and then usually by the time my steak came, I was too full to eat it. So sometimes we’d stop in to the restaurant, head to the bar and just order a drink and the garlic bread before heading to a movie. The bread really was the reason I wanted to go to the restaurant any way.
All the Black Angus restaurants in Utah closed. They’re still open in six states, so if you live in California, Washington, Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico, or Alaska, you can still go and try this bread. For the rest of us, this is my adapted version of their recipe you can make at home. Just be careful, it can be addicting.
Three Cheese Garlic Bread
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter softened
- ½ cup shredded Asiago cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar jack cheese
- ½ cup light mayonnaise
- 3 green onions finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic finely chopped or pressed
- 1 loaf French bread
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- In a small bowl, mix butter, Asiago cheese, cheddar jack cheese, mayonnaise, green onions and garlic until well blended.
- Cut French bread in half horizontally. Spread the cut side of the French bread with the cheese spread. Bake for 10 minutes, until spread is melted.
- Set the oven to broil, and broil until the cheese starts to brown, about 3 minutes. Cut into slices and serve immediately.
