I cooked my first batch of steel cut oats this morning. They were incredible, so different from regular rolled oats that I've been eating every morning for months.
I cooked them in the microwave and used 1/2 water and 1/2 Vanilla Soy (Silk) beverage in place of all water or 1/2 water and 1/2 milk. Then loaded it with fresh strawberries and sliced bananas with a sprinkle of granola and a shake or two of cinnamon and cocoa. Breakfast of champions !!
If you are rushed for time in the morning, as steel cut oats take a long time to cook and need to be watched over in the microwave, cook up a large pot full and then just reheat in the morning with a little more milk and... viola, instant super healthy breakfast.
You must try Steel Cut Oats, they look a little odd but well worth the effort.

yahoo! for steel cut oats. I purchase mine from the health food store here in Regina Canada & the quality is better than the grocery stores. I cook mine in a small rice cooker with the lid off & add a tablespoon of peanut butter near the end. I also sprinkle craisins & mixed nuts. So So good for all of us.

Well, I only put lowfat mayo on my redneck gyros b/c I dump about nine spoonfuls on there, so it might as well be real. Plus, I couldn't find my miracle whip. And I wasn't putting any yuppy yogart on there. :)

YUm! Apple and cinnamon is such a great match for oats. I keep hearing about Steel Cut Oats from Dr Oz on oprah but we don't get them here (or if we do they're marketed under a different name). I must look into it further as it sounds like it has some really good nutritional benefits :)
