    Frequently Asked Questions

What can I serve with cheesy garlic bread?

Cheesy garlic bread pairs wonderfully with soups, pasta, meat dishes, seafood, poultry, and roasted vegetables. It’s incredibly versatile and can complement almost any main course.

Can I use a different type of bread?

While the recipe calls for French bread, you can substitute with sourdough or other sturdy bread types. Just ensure the bread can hold up to the rich, cheesy spread.

Can I make the garlic spread in advance?

Absolutely! You can prepare the butter, mayo, garlic, and green onion mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days before using.

Can I air fry this cheesy garlic bread?

Yes! Air fry the prepared bread at 325°F for 5-6 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and the toast is heated through. Cooking time may vary depending on your desired level of crispness.

Slices of cheesy garlic bread on a wooden cutting board, with melted golden cheese and herbs on top. The crispy edges and soft center make it irresistible—see How to Make Cheesy Garlic Bread for this easy, delicious treat.

    Expert Tips

    • Mince Garlic: Finely chop or thoroughly smash garlic to create tiny, uniform pieces. This ensures the garlic’s flavor is evenly distributed throughout the spread.
    • Sub Out Cheese: Feel free to substitute cheeses based on what you have on hand. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different cheese combinations.
    • Sturdy Bread: Choose a fresh French bread with a sturdy crust. The key is to split the bread horizontally to maximize surface area for the delicious garlic spread.

    Storing Cheesy Garlic Bread

    Refrigeration

Store leftover cheesy garlic bread in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. To maintain its crispy texture, reheat in the oven or air fryer at 325°F for 3-5 minutes before serving. Avoid microwaving, which can make the bread soggy.

    Freezing

You can freeze unbaked prepared garlic bread spread for up to 1 month. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Thaw in refrigerator overnight and bake as directed in the original recipe.

    Best Consumed Fresh

Cheesy garlic bread is always best enjoyed immediately after baking when the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.

Cheesy Garlic Bread is a baking recipe where Butter is used. Before trying it, I just want to ask if I can use grass-fed ghee instead of butter, as ghee is a healthy butter substitute. Ghee offers high smoke point and better scale of nutrition, etc. Will it be a better choice?

The recipe says two loaves of bread but the picture has one loaf cut open. Do you use two loaves and end up with four slices?

You use two loaves, and you’ll end up with 4 big halves that you can cut into smaller slices.

I worked at Black Angus as a young adult and have made this recipe my whole adult life. Exact recipe (although they may have changed it later as I worked there in the early 90s)  we used a cheddar jack mixture, but i love asiago cheese also. Love your recipe as well!

During Covid-19, Corona Virus. We would go to Black Angus for their cheesy garlic bread. Unfortunately they went out of business. I added this cheesy garlic bread spread to some grocery store frozen garlic bread no one really liked. It turned into the most amazing garlic bread! I added it to plan bread french bread, rolls, etc… Thank you for this amazing receipt!!
