In reply to Tara. Hi Tara - room temperature eggs are usually best when baking cakes. Although I admit I don't always take the time. It will help the yeast get working faster if the eggs are room temperature.

I’ve never heard of Kuchen but it sounds delicious…cake + apple + crumb topping would be a definite hit in my home!

nice! That remind me of my friends house in Europe. Their mothers used to make those when we were kids. Interesting topping idea Barbara. We usually stir fry breadcrumbs with brown sugar raisins etc and use that in strudel and even as a topping for apple cake squares as yours.
