It’s hard to beat a hearty bowl of chili on a cold, snowy day especially after a few hours on the ski slopes. This Southwestern Turkey Chili is the most popular lunch item at Deer Valley Resort. I asked Deer Valley for the recipe, but it’s a closely guarded secret. Fortunately, they sell Turkey Chili Mix packets so you can make it at home, and they’ve generously offered to giveaway 10 packets to 10 lucky Barbara Bakes readers. More details on the giveaway at the bottom of this post. Update: The giveaway has now ended. Congratulations to the winners. You can get more information about purchasing the chili on the Deer Valley website.
I was lucky enough to ski at Deer Valley last month when I had the pleasure of attending the Inspired Retreat. If you haven’t been to Deer Valley Resort, you’re missing out. It’s one of the premier ski resorts in the United States. Deer Valley put us up in a beautiful, enormous house on the hill with great transportation to and from the resort and Park City. We just parked our cars and were pampered the entire weekend.
The conference was organized by Carrian, Oh Sweet Basil. It was a chance to collaborate with other bloggers, remember why we started blogging, and to get inspired for the upcoming year. Carrian did a fantastic job of planning the perfect weekend retreat, and Deer Valley was the perfect location.
We were joined by a talented group of women: Becky of Vintage Mixer, Kristy of Sweet Treats and More, Meagan of A Zesty Bite, Lauren of Lauren’s Latest, Ashley of Center Cut Cook, Lauren of Climbing Grier Mountain, Megan of Country Cleaver, Deborah of Taste and Tell, Nikki of Chef in Training, Alyssa of The Recipe Critic, and Annalise of Completely Delicious.
The house was decorated for the holidays by Rod Works. I loved the Rod Works wreath on the front door so much that I bought it from them, brought it home and hung it on my front door for the holidays.
We cooked breakfast together at the house before starting our busy days. Our generous sponsors, Pacific Foods, Real Salt, Charming Beard Coffee, Real Foods Market, Anolon Cookware, Star Fine Foods, Hamilton Beach, Whole Foods, Krusteaz, Gold Medal Flour, Heber Valley Cheese, hooked us up with food and snacks, and all the ingredients and appliances we needed in the kitchen throughout the weekend.
We started Saturday morning with a great yoga class lead by Lole Women. Then we hit the slopes outfitted with terrific ski gear from Skis on the Run. Deer Valley Resort arranged for us to have group ski lessons. It was my first time skiing at Deer Valley. It was a cold, snowy day and I really appreciated the extra attention you get at Deer Valley, including the tissues at the bottom of the ski lift.
Friday night we were treated to an amazing, upscale meal at the Mariposa restaurant at Deer Valley, in a private room with a roaring fire and excellent service.
Saturday night we were transported to the charming little town of Park City and dined at the Riverhorse restaurant. The Riverhorse had live music and a more relaxed atmosphere, but the food was fabulous and again the service was excellent.
Carrian with the help of Lauren, and Emily from Deer Valley sent us home with a great swag bag filled with all kinds of fabulous foods and products to try at home. Wood boards from Red Maple Run, scarves and boot socks from Grace and Lace, PJ’s from Plum Pretty Sugar, jewelry from Brin and Bell, snacks from Nature Box, Cookie Chips and Whole Foods, products from Beauty Box 5, silverware from Vintage Silverware, fashion emergency kits from Fashion First Aid, a gorgeous knife from Wusthof Knives, a beautiful skillet from Anolon Cookware, Microplane gadgets, gift cards from William Sonoma and Rod Works, and journals, Christmas ornaments, and a package of their famous Southwestern Turkey Chili from Deer Valley.
I asked Emily from Deer Valley for the chili recipe so I could share it with my readers, but it’s one of the few recipes they keep a secret. They did however offer to let me host a giveaway for 10 packets of their “secret” chili mix, and they’re also throwing in 10 packets of their fantastic chocolate chip cookie mix as well.
Update: The giveaway has ended. Congratulations to all the winners.
