Today I’m sharing a wonderful new video about Utah food traditions/folklore produced by BYU. While I was a judge at last year’s funeral potato contest at the Utah State Fair, I was interviewed for the video. (I’m in the video near the end.)
The video is well produced and shares a glimpse of our quirky Utah foods. I thought it was fun to watch, and thought you might enjoy watching it too.
Of course, being a life-long Utahn, I have posted recipes for many of these Utah favorites over the years. If you can’t make it to Utah to eat them with us at the fair, you should definitely give the recipes a try at home.

That funeral potato bake looks ever so tasty!

What fun that was to watch! I’ve never been to Utah but have eaten “Funeral Potatoes” before-we just call them potato casserole here in the Northeast. They are good. What made the winning dish the winner, Barbara? A little twist on the usual?
I’ve had my share of green jello-my MIL still makes a molded salad with it. Fried green Jell-O huh? Who would have thought? Looks like it got 2 thumbs up!
That fry sauce looks interesting-never saw that before. Is it like a mix of ketchup and mayonnaise?
Fried scones? Oh be still my heart-they looked delicious with the whipped cream and fruit.
Thanks so much for sharing that great video-I love going to fairs-haven’t done that in eons.
