EASY FRENCH  TOAST CASSEROLE

With just a handful of easily accessible ingredients and a simple preparation process, this French toast casserole is as easy to make as it is delightful to eat.

 INGREDIENTS

– 9 slices sturdy bread such as sourdough or a medium-sized baguette, cut into 1-inch cubes – 2 cups milk – ½ cup heavy cream or substitute an additional ½ cup of milk – 8 large eggs – ½ cup granulated sugar – ¼ cup maple syrup brings a unique flavor twist, but can be substituted or omitted if not available – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Butter a 9 x 13 bake dish. Set it aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, granulated sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Add cubed bread, gently pressing each piece down to soak in the egg mixture.

Pour the bread/egg mixture into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.

If refrigerated for 30 minutes, preheat the oven to 350°F . If refrigerated overnight, take the dish out of the fridge while preheating.

Bake for 45 to 48 minutes until the French Toast is golden on top.

Allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
