This easy Beef and Broccoli recipe comes together in a snap with less than 10 ingredients and has a sweet and savory flavor that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner with rice or noodles.
This recipe is a stovetop version of our reader favorite recipe for Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli from Pressure Cooking Today. This version uses sirloin steak.
❤️ Why You’ll Love this Recipe: This fast stir-fry is a family favorite that you can whip up in minutes in one pot. It’s healthier than beef and broccoli from a restaurant and also stores well for lunch the next day!
Update: I’ve updated the recipe with new photos and tips to help you make this quick dinner your family’s going to love.
How to Make Easy Beef and Broccoli
I recommend using a large pan for this recipe. It will hold everything and allow room for stirring. You can use a big cast-iron skillet or a wok if you have one.
The pan should get nice and hot before you start adding ingredients to it because everything cooks quickly in this stir-fry recipe.
It’s best to have all of your ingredients prepared and ready to go before you start cooking. Start by cutting the meat into thin strips. This way it will cook evenly and at the same time.
Likewise, cut the broccoli into small- to medium-sized pieces. You want your broccoli to be just done, not overdone (mushy). Your broccoli should retain its bright green color and be easily pierced with a knife.
Sauce
The sauce for this beef and broccoli is a bit sweet and very savory. Brown sugar gives the sauce a rich, caramelized flavor.
When mixing the flour, broth, sugar, and soy sauce, I like to use a whisk to make sure everything gets nice and smooth. If you don’t have a whisk, a large fork will work as well.
Cooking Tips
When browning the meat, make sure to stir it frequently in the skillet so it cooks evenly and all the way through.
Then, once all the other ingredients are in the pan, be sure to stir it often and turn it so all the sides of the broccoli get cooked and the ginger and garlic get mixed in well.
Adding Other Vegetables
You can easily mix up this dish by adding other veggies. Or if you’re not a fan of broccoli, replace it with these quick-cooking stir fry vegetables:
- Bell peppers
- Thinly-sliced carrots
- Greens like bok choy or swiss chard
- Baby corn
- Green beans
- Peas
- Onions
Beef and Broccoli Calories
Ordering beef and broccoli from a restaurant can be a high-calorie meal. When you make it at home you can reduce the amount of oil, sugar and other high-calorie ingredients. Our recipe has less than 400 calories per serving.
Serving Suggestions
Serve your hot beef and broccoli immediately with rice or noodles. We like to make steamed brown or white rice in an Instant Pot while cooking the beef and broccoli on the stove.
Garnish with sesame seeds.
Storage & Reheating
Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to five days.
To reheat the dish, microwave for 1 minute. If more heating is required, microwave again in 10-second increments until desired temperature is reached.

This looks really good. I bet I could use venison (Grumpy told me to use more of it up soon because hunting starts again at the end of this month!).
LOL @ the shopping in your pantry. My kids do that to me….and I have done that to my mom….even as an adult! LOL Usually for home canned pickled beets, beans, etc. 😉
