Chocolate chess pie

Chocolate chess pie, a classic Southern dessert, is the perfect combination of simplicity and deliciousness.

Ingredients 

  • 1 pie shell unbaked,single crust 9 inch
  • 2 ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 eggs
  • cup melted butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Make the pie crust and shape it into a 9 inch pie pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, sift together the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined.
  • Add the evaporated milk, eggs, and melted butter to the bowl and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Pour the mixture into the pie shell and use a spatula to spread it evenly.
  • Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 55 minutes, or until the filling is set but still slightly wobbly in the middle.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool to room temperature on a wire rack.
  • Once the pie has cooled, it can be served immediately, or refrigerated for later. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
