Old fashioned oats soaked overnight in milk and yogurt, sweetened with a drizzle of agave and strawberries and blueberries. A creamy, delicious, healthy breakfast that is easy to throw together at night and ready to eat in the morning.
This month I got to cook from two great blogs for the Secret Recipe Club. This recipe comes from Katie, This Chick Cooks. Katie has a great healthy blog. She cut out white flour, white sugar and focuses on eating more whole foods.
While I’m not ready to cut out white flour or white sugar, I am definitely trying to eat more whole foods. Becky, Vintage Mixer, recently posted Strawberry Rhubarb Oatmeal and Farro in a Jar that I’ve been wanting to try, so when I saw Katie’s Strawberry Refrigerator Oats I knew it was time for me to try oatmeal in a jar.
Katie’s overnight method couldn’t be easier. You just mix it up the night before, no cooking, and it’s ready to eat in the morning. It reminded me of the oatmeal that was served at many of the B&Bs we stayed at in Europe. A perfect way to start the day.

I love to bake, especially cookies, cakes, and pies. I’ll post my adventures in the kitchen, my favorite new recipes, as well as our family favorites.

Delicious and so healthy! Very similyr to muesli.

What a healthy and delicious treat. I love the fact that I can prepared it the night before and breakfast will be waiting for me in the morning. So convenience as my morning can get hectic with the kids.

I like the idea of making ahead, as with two kids, I need some breakfast like these.
Yum! I love oatmeal of all kinds, and this sounds fun!
I’ve heard they’re delish!
Yum, it sounds great, and is a nice way to eat oatmeal in the summer when it’s hot and hot cereal isn’t so appealing. Thank you for adopting group A’s orphan, you’re the best!
love this idea! Yum! Hope you’re well! Can’t wait to catch up in a few weeks in person
I love soaking raw oats. Sometimes I just soak them in almond milk for 15-20 minutes int eh refrigerator before I eat them! This is perfect for the summertime! Thanks for the link too
De délicieuses petite billes gourmandes et croquantes
Je te souhaite une belle soirée
Valérie.
My friend makes something similar to this with grated apple and it’s delicious. I’ll have to give it a go with berries. I always miss my oats in summer so what a great way to eat them cold.
I love the idea of grated apple. I’ll have to try that soon. Thanks Claire.
Barbara,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the oats. Your take on it looks delicious and your photos are so pretty. Have a nice day!
I am so glad you posted this, Barbara. I have seen people talk about oats in a jar before, but this is the first actual recipe I have seen. I love yogurt with something carby in it so I am definitely trying this. This is great for summertime with all of the fresh berries we have!
It doesn’t get simpler than this. So easy to put together and promises a treat in the morning! Love it, Barb!
With summer bringing on insane temperatures, I’ve been thinking of something like this for a few days now – I’d seen this a while ago but hadn’t saved it. Now I can try this version! OOh, I can’t wait!
I’m hosting a giveaway over at my blog and would love for you to stop by and participate.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
This is such a fantastic idea! I eat my favorite yogurt parfait about 4 times per week for breakfast and would love to try this variation to spice things up a little.
That sounds delicious and healthy, love fresh berries and love oats.
Hehe I bet even my husband could make this! Thanks mum, I’m going to send this to him now so that he doesn’t starve

Looks delicious and healthy.
Hi Barbara! I’ve never made overnight oats before but see it all over the blogworld. I think this recipe has me convinced to give it a try!
I do something similar with steel-cut oats! It’s so nice to wake up to oatmeal in the morning.
I’ll have to try it with steel-cut oats. Do they get soft overnight?
I have seen so many versions of this throughout the blogosphere, and have been dying to try it. What a great carry-out breakfast it would make, or lunch kept in the work fridge! I love the use of agave syrup instead of sugar, and of course, your photos are beautiful. I’m pretty sure I would have chosen this also
You have really tempted me with this recipe, Barbara. I’m trying to eat healthier too and this is a good place to start. Love your SRC choice!
This sounds terrific. I’ll have to whip me up a jar for the morning. Hope frozen fruit and flavored yogurt work out OK.
Counting down, 5 weeks from today!!!
Thank You for sharing this!
Looks very delicious, and it’s healthy too:)
Greetings from Finland!
I have yet tried anything like this before. Thanks so much for the introduction. You’re the best.
Enjoy your day.
Regards
Kristy
the fact you can refrigerate the oats overnight is just fantastic! Can;t wait to try this
i did not have agave syrup an went nuts at store but found finally but was confused over the different flavors
does one use the plain or flavored?
or can one use honey in place of the agave?
thanks will be anxious to try for sure
Hi Kathy – great questions. I used plain non fat Greek yogurt, because it’s so low in calories, higher in protein and creamier than regular yogurt, but whatever you like would be great. The original recipe used maple syrup or honey instead of the agave, but I prefer agave. I’ve only used the Xagave so I don’t know about any others. I hope you love as much as I did.
Absolutely delicious! And so kind of you to step up and adopt an orphan blog
This sounds so easy…perfect for lazy sunday mornings:) Looks beautiful Barbara!
This sounds really yummy. What kind of oats did you use? Rolled oats, or steel-cut/pinhead oats? I happen to have both in my pantry at the moment (and must confess to liking the less-processed steel cut oats much more), and I’m curious as to which would work better in this recipe.
Or, you know, maybe I’ll just try both and find out for myself
I used old fashioned oats, but someone mentioned using steel cut oats in a similar recipe. So I guess any type of oat would work. Enjoy!
Thank you so much for that recipe! Perfect breakfast to take to go! I ran out of milk last night and used buttermilk instead, it was a total revelation, I love it even more now!!!! (buttermilk and regular yogurt)
Hi Lex – sounds like a great substitution. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!
