What is a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Breakfast Pizza?

A bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast pizza is a savory morning dish featuring a baked pizza crust that is topped with soft, scrambled eggs, crumbled bacon, fresh green onions, and melted cheese. It is a highly popular, family-friendly recipe because it takes those classic breakfast ingredients and turns them into hand-held slices that you can eat as you head out the door.

    Key Takeaways

    • Easy to make with no complicated ingredients!
    • Uses a pre-made dough, making it ready to eat in less than 20 minutes.
    • Easy to customize with your favorite toppings.
    • Make it gluten-free by using a gluten-free crust!
    • Easily prep it in advance by preparing the eggs and bacon, then adding to the pizza crust just before baking.

    Ingredient Notes

    Scrambled-egg-Breakfast-Pizzas-Barbara-Bakes

Whole Wheat Dough: Provides the hearty, nutty base that holds the heavy breakfast toppings.

Olive Oil: Lightly drizzled on the crust to create the moisture barrier so the eggs do not make the crust soggy.

Scrambled Eggs: These are soft-scrambled to be just as fluffy as you’d expect without being too done.

Cooked Bacon: Cooked crispy and crumbled, topped right over the eggs for a protein boost.

Green Onions: Adds flavor and a pop of color to the breakfast pizza.

Shredded Cheddar Cheese: Provides a smooth, tasty melt.

How to Make Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Pizza

    1. Preheat oven to 450ºF. Put your pizza stone in the oven to heat while the oven is preheating.
    2. Divide the dough into four equal portions. Roll each piece into a 6 to 8 inch round depending on how thick you like your crust.
    3. Cook pizza crust on pizza stone until the crust is full cooked and golden brown on the bottom, about 5 – 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and drizzle top of crust lightly with olive oil.
    4. Combine the scrambled eggs, crumbled bacon and sliced green onions. Divide the egg mixture between the four pizzas and sprinkle cheese on top.
    5. Return to the oven and bake a few minutes more until the cheese is melted and starting to brown.

Pro Tips for the Best Breakfast Pizza

Two slices of breakfast pizza topped with scrambled eggs, melted cheese, and bits of bacon on a wooden surface. The cheese is stretchy and gooey, with a golden-brown crust.
    • Use either the pre-made dough of your choice or my own Whole Wheat Dough Recipe.
    • Soft scramble the eggs, do not fully cook them. The pizza will bake and fully cook the eggs, so just lightly scramble.
    • For the best texture crust, always heat the stone in the oven while the oven is preheating.
    • Use a block of cheese that you hand-shred; the pre-shredded cheese does not melt as well as the block of grated cheese.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Use cooked sausage instead of bacon.
    • For a vegetarian breakfast pizza, omit the meat and add green peppers and onions.
    • If you are short on time, swap the pizza dough for an English muffin or pita bread.
    • Add spice with cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes just before serving.
    • Use salsa to dip the slices in for additional flavor.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Each ingredient can be prepped in advance and stored in the fridge until you are ready to assemble the pizza.

What is the best cheese for breakfast pizza?

Use shredded cheddar cheese or a mix of sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack for extra flavor. It’s best to freshly grate the cheese before topping the pizza.

    Can I use egg whites?

Egg whites can be used without an issue, just soft-scramble as instructed on the recipe instructions.

What to Serve with Breakfast Pizza

A breakfast pizza topped with scrambled eggs, bacon, and melted cheese sits on a wooden surface next to a bowl of shredded cheese, a glass of orange juice, and a striped cloth.

    Fresh Fruit Salad

    Crispy Hash Browns

    Greek Yogurt Parfaits

    Storage and Reheating

    Refrigerator

Once cooled, store leftover pizza in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container.

    Reheating

It’s best to reheat on a baking sheet in the oven at 350°F for 5 to 7 minutes. Using the microwave can make the slices rubbery.

The first time I had a breakfast pizza was years ago at California Pizza Kitchen and I fell in love with the concept. However, I’ve never made one at home. I definitely have to try your recipe!

Wow Barbara. These look delicious. I will try these for sure. Hubby loves his bacon and eggs every Sunday. This looks like a fun way to have them. I just ordered my bacon the other day, so I am set on that front. I get my bacon online from oscarssmokedmeats.com My brother sends me gift cards each year for my b-day and I stockpile… Yes, some gals get flowers, I get pork! Have a great weekend.
