I’ve been toying with the idea of starting a monthly post on Barbara Bakes featuring baking tips. Today I’m teaming up with PAM Cooking Spray to bring you a baking tip I use often.
When my daughter bakes with me, she is often surprised by the little things I do that aren’t written in the recipe. They’re little tips that I’ve learned over the years that make baking easier. Today’s tip using Cooking Spray when measuring is one of those.
When you’re measuring sticky liquids like agave, corn syrup or honey, spray your measuring cup with PAM Cooking Spray before you measure the ingredient. The sticky ingredients won’t stick to the cup. Instead, it beads up and runs out of the cup.
Using the cooking spray also helps make clean up easier.
My Chocolate Zucchini Muffins are made with whole wheat pastry flour and agave syrup. Before I measured the agave, I sprayed the measuring cup.
I also used PAM Cooking Spray to spray the muffin cups before I added my muffin batter. I always use a paper towel to make sure each cup is completely coated with cooking spray, including the top rim.
My daughter’s next project is baking a layer cake for her son’s birthday. She asked me to share my layer cake baking tips with her, and I’m working on a post to share them with you too. So stay tuned.

Barbara,
I haven’t used this tip before but I’ll certainly give it a try. I usually use a silicone spatula to get those sticky items out of the measuring cups. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, this is such a great tip! I use these with peanut butter when I’m making peanut noodles.

Soooo your daughter does that “Mom-WHY didn’t you tell me that?” too? 🙂 Robin says she’s forever “learning something new” when we cook together. Guess we just do these things automatically and don’t think about writing it down.
I used that trick last night when I was measuring honey for homemade granola-it works great that’s for sure.
Barbara, what a great idea doing a monthly helpful hints and tips post! I’ve been cooking and baking for a long time but I STILL learn new ways-a lot of them easier-to do things all the time and I love those “why didn’t I think of that?” moments.

Oh my gosh yes I use it especially when measuring viscous things like honey and syrup.
