This Apple Blueberry Brown Butter Bliss is a cross between a fruit cobbler and a cake. It’s loaded with fruit on the bottom, but some of the topping seeps down between the fruit. The sugar sprinkled on top before baking gives it a nice crunch, and is the perfect addition to this old fashioned dessert.
I have been making lots of things with apples lately, but one of my favorites is this Apple Blueberry Brown Butter Bliss.
I received the sweetest email from a reader, Cheryl from NC. She told me how much she liked my blog and shared a few of her favorite recipes with me. One of her favorites was Browned Butter Bliss with Plums from Dinner With Julie, Sounds heavenly doesn’t it, so of course I needed to give it a try.
Also included in this post is a Recipe Round Up. I’ve joined a fun group of bloggers to put together a roundup of recipes on the first day of every month. This month we’re sharing Brown Butter Recipes.
Costco had some big beautiful blueberries, so I decided to make a Blueberry Bliss instead of a plum bliss. I was afraid blueberries might be a bit too juicy for this recipe and make the top soggy, so I used the technique that Cook’s Illustrated uses in their blueberry pie recipe.
I cooked half of the blueberries to create a sauce, then added the remaining blueberries and apples. It worked perfectly.
Once you have the fruit cooked, you brown the butter. Browning it gives it sort of a nutty flavor. Watch it closely so you don’t burn it. Then you combine the topping ingredients and pour them over the fruit and finish the top with a sprinkle of sugar.
My family was blissfully happy with this dessert. Serve it hot with a scoop of vanilla ice are. Thanks Cheryl for recommending it.

Filling
- 2 cups fresh blueberries divided
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- Pinch of salt
- 1 apple peeled and diced
Topping
- ½ cup butter

- 1 tablespoon sugar in the raw
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter a pie plate.

- Pour over the fruit and sprinkle with raw sugar. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden and crusty, and the juices ooze from around the edges.

Give me a sleigh bed in New England in the Fall. That has always been a dream! Maybe at a nice cozy B&B.
Your Bliss looks like a perfect Summer treat. It reminds me of a 4th of July dessert!

My dream bed would be a king sized bed with an extra plush pillowtop and plush pillows and located in a bigger master bedroom (in the same house we live in now). 🙂 Thanks for this giveaway! I found you at Flamingo Musings and just added your blog to my Google Reader.

Any bed, hows that? We have a mattress, but no frame, and now that we are buying a house I told my husband it's a must. We are adults now!

My dream bed would be one that is large enough to be cozy for me, my husband, and our cat. I've also always wanted a bed that fits into a deep recess in the wall (like the evil stepmother's bed in Disney's Cinderella). It just seems so cozy!

Hey Barbara,
Awesome giveaway. My dream bed would be this incredible "Lexington Long Cove Newport Poster bed" -http://www.bedroomfurniture.com/Lexington-01-0801-17XC-LTN1006.html
I dream of lying on it somewhere in the middle of Rangali Islands, Maldives or Tahiti surrounded by miles and miles of idyllic soft-sand and exotic reef with someone serving me a piece of your Apple Blueberry Brown Butter Bliss.

I always wanted a veil draped from the ceiling down around my bed.

Nice dessert and I love how you slice your apples!
My dream bed would be The Powell Salem bed (I really had to look) maybe in the distressed finish, with big, fluffy white sheets, pillows and comforter on it. The bed would be in a room with painted wood floors, with French doors that would open up overlooking beautiful blue waters. There would be matching white sheer-ish curtains that would billow from the sea breeze!
Did I mention that your dessert would be on a nearby table just waiting to be eaten ;D

I have to agree with you. I love four poster beds and would love to sleep in one overlooking a balcony in the middle of the Carribean or some place tropical. Sounds like paradise to me!
