Why I Love Making Strawberry Spinach Smoothie
This smoothie has become my morning ritual, especially on rushed weekdays when I need something nutritious fast. What started as an experiment to use up leftover spinach turned into the recipe I make at least three times a week.
The brilliant thing about this strawberry spinach smoothie is how it completely masks the taste of greens. My kids call it their “pink smoothie” and have no idea they’re drinking two full cups of spinach. The frozen mango adds natural sweetness and creates that thick, creamy texture you’d normally get from bananas or yogurt.
I appreciate how forgiving this recipe is—whether I use fresh or frozen strawberries, it works beautifully. Plus, blending the spinach with almond milk first means no leafy chunks, just smooth, drinkable nutrition that feels like a treat rather than a health obligation.

I struggle to eat enough fruit and veggies during the day. So for me a smoothie is a perfect way to help me get my nutritious servings a day. I often have a smoothie as a meal replacement.
This smoothie is a sweet treat in the morning and if you can get past the muddy green color, it’s my favorite way to eat spinach in the morning. I prefer my smoothies thick and icy, so I reduced the amount of almond milk in the recipe.
Ingredient Notes
Frozen Mango: This is the secret ingredient that makes the smoothie thick and creamy without banana. Look for pre-cut frozen mango chunks in the freezer section to save prep time.
Unsweetened Almond Milk: Keeps this recipe dairy-free and low in calories. The unsweetened variety lets the natural fruit sweetness shine through.
Fresh vs. Frozen Strawberries: Both work equally well. If using fresh, consider adding a few ice cubes for a frosty texture. Frozen strawberries that have been thawed slightly blend more easily.

How To Make Strawberry Spinach Smoothie

Step 1: Gather your spinach, almond milk, strawberries, and frozen mango. If using fresh strawberries, remove stems and cut larger ones in half.
Step 2: Add spinach and almond milk to your blender. Blend on high for 30-60 seconds until the spinach is completely broken down and the mixture is smooth.
Step 3: Add strawberries and frozen mango to the blender with the spinach mixture.
Step 4: Blend on high speed for 60-90 seconds until completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides if needed.
Step 5: If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more almond milk and blend briefly. If too thin, add a few more frozen fruit pieces.
Step 6: Pour into glasses and enjoy right away for the best texture and flavor.
FAQs for Strawberry Spinach Smoothie
Any milk works—regular dairy milk, oat milk, coconut milk, or soy milk. Choose unsweetened varieties to control the sweetness level.
Blending the spinach with liquid first ensures it breaks down completely, preventing those annoying leafy bits. This step is key for a smooth, restaurant-quality texture.
This is a nutrient-dense, low-calorie option that’s naturally dairy-free and filling. It makes an excellent meal replacement or snack, though results depend on your overall diet.
My Best Tips for Making Strawberry Spinach Smoothie
☞Blend in Stages: Always blend your greens with liquid first for the smoothest consistency, then add frozen fruit.
☞Use Frozen Fruit for Thickness: Frozen strawberries and mango create a thick, milkshake-like texture without needing ice that can water down the flavor.
☞Adjust Sweetness Naturally: If your fruit isn’t sweet enough, add a pitted date or a teaspoon of honey rather than refined sugar.
☞Prep Freezer Bags: Portion out your spinach and fruit into individual bags for grab-and-go convenience on busy mornings.
☞Invest in a Good Blender: A high-powered blender makes all the difference in achieving that silky-smooth texture, especially when working with leafy greens.
What to Serve With Strawberry Spinach Smoothie
This strawberry spinach smoothie makes a light breakfast or snack on its own, but pairs beautifully with:
- Whole grain toast with almond butter and sliced banana
- A handful of granola or trail mix for added crunch
- Hard-boiled eggs for extra protein
- Overnight oats topped with fresh berries
- A warm breakfast sandwich or wrap
- Greek yogurt parfait with nuts and seeds
Storage & Reheating Tips
Refrigerator Storage
Store in an airtight container or mason jar for up to 24 hours. The smoothie will separate as it sits—shake well or re-blend briefly before drinking.
Freezer Storage
Pour into freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then blend briefly to restore the smooth texture.
Make-Ahead
Pre-portion spinach and frozen fruit into individual freezer bags. When ready, dump contents into the blender with almond milk and blend.
Smoothie Packs
Create ready-to-blend smoothie packs by combining measured spinach, strawberries, and mango in freezer bags. Label with the date and freeze flat for easy storage.
Note: This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh. The texture and color are most vibrant immediately after blending, though it remains nutritious when stored properly.

I like it when green smoothies are sweet. Sometimes they’re too savoury and I’m not a huge fan. But I think this one would be perfect 😀

I make a really similar smoothie, except I add 2 table spoons of PB2 powdered peanut butter…it actually turns out much tastier you should give it a try.
