I love all the beautiful sugar cookies I’ve been seeing online lately and when I stumbled upon Our Best Bites Glacé Icing recipe I immediately wanted to try it. I’m not a fan of royal icing nor buttercream, so an icing that is ”super forgiving, easy to use, and it actually tastes good” sounded like a must try.
I was lucky enough to have my sweet foodie friends, Becky, Vintage Mixer, and Tiffany, Food Finery and her beautiful daughters, join me in the kitchen to try our hand at this fun new icing technique.
I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe. It puffs up a bit more than other sugar cookie recipes I’ve tried, but it’s tender and delicious and I’ve yet to find one I like better.
Visit Our Best Bites for the Glacé Icing recipe and great tutorial on decorating cookies with the Glacé Icing.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
Directions
- Sift together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter, or pulse in a food processor until mixture looks like sand. Mix in sugar. Mix in beaten eggs and knead into a ball. Divide into two pieces and form into two disks. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for one hour. Cut out shapes and place on baking sheets. Bake at 375º 6 to 8 minutes.

I love to bake, especially cookies, cakes, and pies. I’ll post my adventures in the kitchen, my favorite new recipes, as well as our family favorites.

WOW. Those cookies are beautiful! Looks like it requires a lot of skill and patience too.

Beautiful cookies. Gorgeous colors and patterns….
I too used the glace icing awhile ago and absolutely loved the ease of it. The cookies came out looking fantastic! So much better than that nasty Royal Icing that hates me!
These are soooo pretty and well decorated!
Happy Easter!
Cheers,
Rosa
I’ve tried their glace icing and wasn’t wowed by the taste. Perhaps my powdered sugar was old? I don’t know, but it sure does make for pretty looking cookies…and yours are!
The do look pretty. I actually love a buttercream frosting but it would never allow for making cookies look like this. Wishing I had a little kid or two that would go crazy over these; I need an excuse to make them!
I wondered when you might post this
it was a fun afternoon! That picture looks great!!!

i’ve always wanted to make really pretty cookies, these look wonderful!
I love your cookies, Barbara! I, too, prefer using glace icing over royal icing. There is a huge difference, I believe, in the taste and the look. Even though the icing takes longer to dry, I think it’s definitely worth it. Beautiful work on these!
I may have to try this frosting now!
Beautiful colors! I just don’t have the patience for decorating cookies. But you’ve inspired me to try this icing instead of royal. Happy Easter!
Those cookies are so pretty! I’m glad you posted this. I don’t bake sugar cookies very often, but every time I do I wish they would look like this. Unfortunately, I think they look the same way they did when I was a kid. I am definitely bookmarking this. Thanks for sharing!
How decorated cookies are lovely Barb. I have to admit, I’ve tried the glace (twice) but still prefer to use royal icing for both ease of technique and taste. I have yet to try buttercream frosting for decorating cookies though.
Paula – Your cookies are so perfect you shouldn’t change a thing!
These cookies are so pretty! I must bear both the cookie and icing recipe in mind for the next time I am making sugar cookies.
Those are so adorable, Barbara! The Easter colors and designs are lovely. I went to the site to see the tutorial…thanks for the link!

I use the glace icing from Our Best Bites too! It is my favorite! Your cookies turned out so adorable I wish I would have made some for this past Easter myself! Definite cookie envy! Good work
Your cookies are so pretty Barbara! Is there nothing you can’t bake well?
