Baked brie is one of my go-to appetizers because it’s so easy to make but looks and tastes like something you’d find at a fancy restaurant. The combination of creamy brie with the sweetness of maple syrup and the earthiness of fresh thyme is absolutely irresistible.

This dish comes together quickly and is always a crowd-pleaser, making it a fantastic choice for holiday parties, casual get-togethers, or just a cozy night in.

    How To Make Baked Brie

Step #1. Preheat the oven. Once the oven is preheated, unwrap your cheese and place it in a small Dutch oven or shallow dish.

Step #2. Bake your Brie until soft. Remove the cheese and top it with maple syrup and fresh thyme. Serve and enjoy!

    Recipe FAQs

Can I add other toppings to baked brie?

Absolutely! You can add chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, for a bit of crunch, or even dried fruits like cranberries or figs for extra sweetness.

Do I need to remove the rind from the brie?

No, the rind is edible and helps keep the cheese contained as it melts. It also adds a subtle, earthy flavor to the dish.

Can I make baked brie ahead of time?

You can prepare the brie with the syrup and thyme a few hours ahead and keep it in the fridge. Bake it just before serving for the best texture and flavor.

    Expert Tips

    • For a slightly more rustic look, you can bake the brie directly in its wooden box (if it came in one), just be sure to remove any plastic wrapping first.
    • Use real maple syrup for the best flavor—its natural sweetness is key to this dish.
    • Feel free to experiment with other herbs like rosemary or sage if you want to change up the flavor profile.

    How To Serve Baked Brie

This baked brie is best served warm, straight from the oven, with plenty of crackers, bread, or fresh fruit for dipping. It’s perfect as an appetizer, or you can even serve it as a dessert with a glass of wine. It also goes well with a fresh baguette. Try out Julia Child’s french bread!

    How To Store Baked Brie

If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. To reheat, place it back in the oven at a low temperature until the cheese is warm and gooey again.

    Ingredients

    • 1 wheel brie 8 ounces
    • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
    • 4 sprigs fresh thyme

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
    • Once the oven is preheated, unwrap your cheese and place it in a small Dutch oven or shallow dish.
    • Bake your brie for 25 minutes. Remove the Brie from the oven and top it with the maple syrup and thyme.
    • Serve and enjoy!

    Notes

    • You can serve this brie alongside a variety of sides. Some of our favorites include crackers, sliced apples, cranberries, grapes, and sliced cucumbers.
    • Baking your cheese in a mini Dutch oven or shallow dish as opposed to a baking sheet will help prevent the cheese from oozing everywhere once you break into it.
    • This baked cheese is best served fresh, so we don’t recommend heating it until you are ready to enjoy it.
    • You can replace the maple syrup with honey. While it isn’t a necessary ingredient, the sweetness adds a nice balance to the cheese.
