Why You’ll Love This Virgin Strawberry Margarita
- Quick and Easy Preparation: With just a few simple ingredients and a blender, you can whip up this delicious mocktail in under 5 minutes, making it perfect for spontaneous summer gatherings or when you need a quick refreshing drink.
- Family-Friendly Fun: Unlike traditional margaritas, this virgin version allows both kids and adults to enjoy a restaurant-style drink without alcohol. It’s the perfect drink for family events.
- Fresh and Healthy Ingredients: Using fresh ingredients and natural agave means you’re creating a drink packed with real fruit flavors and nutrients, without artificial sweeteners.
- Versatile and Customizable: The recipe can easily be adapted – want it less sweet? Adjust the agave. Prefer a different garnish? Swap out the sugar rim or strawberry garnish. It’s a flexible recipe that can be tailored to individual tastes.
🍹My family always lights up with excitement when I surprise them with delicious treats, so fruity drinks are always a hit in our house!
Recipe Ingredients
- Agave: Light agave nectar blends more smoothly than honey and has a neutral sweetness that doesn’t compete with the strawberries. It’s also vegan, making this drink suitable for everyone at the table.
- Coarse sugar: Sometimes labeled sanding sugar or turbinado, coarse sugar creates that satisfying crunch on the rim and holds up far better than regular sugar, which dissolves too quickly. You can find it at your local grocery store.
- Fresh citrus: Bottled lime juice and orange juice will work in a pinch, but freshly squeezed makes a noticeable difference in brightness and flavor. It’s worth the extra five minutes.

How to Make A Virgin Strawberry Margarita
Making the perfect margarita is easier than you might think, and these step-by-step instructions will guide you through the process with ease. Let’s get started!

Step 1: I highly recommend using freshly squeezed orange and lime juice for your margaritas. The real fruit flavor makes a big difference in the final drink.
Step 2: To make the virgin strawberry margaritas, simply add all of your fresh fruit, juices, agave and blend. Then add the ice and pulse until blended as smooth as you like them. I like my margaritas pretty smooth so the ice is tiny pebbles.

Step 3: Since you are blending up fresh cocktails, why not go all-out and make sure everyone’s glass is properly garnished for the full tropical experience?
Step 4: It’s easy to make a restaurant-quality margarita glass at home. Here’s how to do it:
- Place coarse sugar in a shallow bowl or on a plate.
- Wet the rim of each glass by running a lime wedge around it.
- Invert the glass to coat the wet rim with sugar.
It’s that simple! If you like a salty rim, you can do the same thing with margarita salt, which you can easily purchase at most grocery stores.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget the finishing touch: a plump sliced strawberry on each glass. Only cut the strawberry half through lengthwise from the bottom so it rests securely on the glass.

How to Make Strawberry Margaritas with Alcohol
If you’d like to take this non-alcoholic drink to a boozy level, simply add:
- ½ cup of tequila
- 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier
This will make a big batch of frozen strawberry margaritas for the adults.

Recipe FAQs
You can prepare the strawberry mixture beforehand and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. However, add the ice and blend just before serving to maintain the perfect frozen consistency and prevent separation.
A great substitution for agave is simple syrup, honey, or maple syrup. Each will provide sweetness, though the flavor profile will slightly change. Start with the same amount and adjust to taste.
Yes, frozen strawberries work great and can actually help create a more slushy-like texture. If using frozen, you might need to reduce the amount of ice slightly. Ensure the strawberries are unsweetened to control the drink’s sugar content.
It can be! Swap the coarse sugar rim for coconut sugar or skip the rim entirely, and the rest of the recipe is naturally paleo-friendly. Agave, fresh fruit, and citrus juice are all compliant, making this a great option for guests with dietary restrictions.

Expert Tips
- Fresh Juice is Key: Always use freshly squeezed orange and lime juice instead of store-bought. The difference in flavor is remarkable.
- Ice Matters: Use crushed ice or briefly pulse whole ice cubes to create small, even ice pieces. This ensures a smoother, more consistent texture in your margarita.
- Balance Your Sweetness: Start with less agave and taste as you go. Different strawberries have varying levels of natural sweetness, so add agave gradually.
- Chill Your Glasses: For an extra professional touch, chill your glasses in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before serving.
- Blend in Stages: For the smoothest consistency, blend your fruits and juices first, then add ice in stages.
