Why I Love Making This Sliders Recipe with Hawaiian Rolls

From assembly to serving in just 10 minutes makes these baked sliders a total lifesaver for feeding hungry crowds!

The oven’s heat melts the cheese to gooey perfection while the butter creates a golden, crispy top layer that contrasts beautifully with the soft, sweet rolls underneath.

You’re baking everything in one pan! No need to make individual sandwiches or dirty multiple dishes, so cleanup is practically effortless.

I always purchase the largest sheet of Hawaiian rolls I can find and trim them to fit my 9×13 inch pan rather than trying to piece together individual rolls for the neatest presentation.

I keep a close eye on my sliders during the last few minutes of baking, and I want the cheese melted but the rolls not overly crispy.

    Ingredient Notes

Hawaiian rolls: Look for King’s Hawaiian brand in the bakery section, sold as a sheet of 12 or 24 connected rolls for the easiest assembly and best presentation.

American cheese: Kraft singles melt beautifully and create that gooey texture, but any pre-sliced American cheese will work perfectly in this recipe.

Deli ham: Black Forest ham adds a subtle smoky flavor, but you can swap in honey ham, Virginia ham, or any thinly sliced deli meat you prefer.

Butter: Salted butter adds flavor and creates that golden, crispy top, but if you only have unsalted butter on hand, just add a pinch of salt to the melted butter before brushing.

FAQs for Sliders Recipe with Hawaiian Rolls

Can I make these sliders ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble the sliders completely, cover them with foil, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add an extra 2-3 minutes to the baking time if cooking from cold.

How do I keep the rolls from getting soggy?

Avoid adding wet condiments like mayo or mustard before baking. Instead, serve them on the side for dipping, or add them just before serving if desired.

What other meats work well in these sliders?

Turkey, roast beef, salami, or even rotisserie chicken all work beautifully in this recipe. You can also use a combination of meats for more variety and flavor.

My Best Tips for Making Sliders Recipe with Hawaiian Rolls

☞Perfect Butter Application: Melt the butter completely and use a pastry brush to coat every inch of the roll tops, paying special attention to the edges. This ensures uniform browning and creates that irresistible golden, buttery crust that makes these sliders so addictive.

☞Strategic Cheese Layering: Always use cheese as both the bottom and top layer around your ham – this dual-layer technique not only maximizes cheesy goodness but also creates a protective barrier that keeps the rolls from getting soggy while holding all the fillings securely in place.

☞Slice Before Baking: While it’s tempting to bake the entire sheet and slice after, scoring the sliders (cutting about halfway through) before they go in the oven makes serving so much easier. The heat will finish separating them, and you’ll get clean cuts without squishing warm, soft rolls or losing any melted filling.

What to Serve With Sliders Recipe with Hawaiian Rolls

These ham and cheese sliders pair perfectly with light, refreshing sides that balance their rich flavor. Try crispy potato chips, creamy coleslaw, a simple green salad, or fresh fruit like watermelon and grapes. For heartier options, serve them with sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, or baked beans.

For parties, add pickle spears, veggie sticks with ranch, or chips and dip to create a complete spread. Tomato soup makes an excellent dipping companion, while lemonade or iced tea are ideal beverage choices.

    Storage & Reheating Tips

Store leftover sliders in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight before reheating. Warm in the microwave for 30 seconds, or for crispier results, heat in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes or an air fryer at 320°F for 3–4 minutes.
